Which box and insert for each piece
Choose the box, pouch and insert as a combination. A pouch may help with storage or transport but can add bulk or catch a chain inside a tightly fitted tray. Ring heads, earring posts and bracelet clasps need clearance beyond the visible front outline. Consider how a retail assistant mounts the piece and how the customer removes it. Material compatibility and any anti-tarnish requirement must be specified separately from the desired soft appearance.
Mount real pieces in the intended display orientation and remove them repeatedly. Inspect chain routing, pressure on settings, lining fibres and contact marks. Use the smallest and largest pieces before approving one insert across a family.

Inserts and linings
The insert decides how the piece is presented when the lid opens and whether it moves in transit. Send the actual pieces or their exact sizes so slots are cut to fit.
- Velvet or suede-look flocked inserts: the classic choice for rings and earrings.
- EVA foam with a fabric cover: holds heavier pieces and watches firmly.
- Card or paper-wrapped board: lighter and printable, suits fashion jewelry and sets.

Box, pouch or both?
A rigid box gives the unboxing and protects the piece on the shelf; a pouch is lighter, cheaper to ship and easy to reuse. Many jewelers use a pouch inside an outer box for online orders, and a box alone for in-store sales. If you sell online, plan the shipping carton around the box so it is not crushed in the mail.
Branding the box

Check the jewelry and insert together before approval
Use your actual pieces, including their largest settings, clasps and backs, rather than choosing an insert from the empty box photograph. These are buyer approval checks, not measured test results or a guarantee for every jewelry finish.
- Ring: try the intended size range in the slot; check that the setting clears the lid and the ring can be lifted without gripping a stone.
- Earrings: check the posts, backs and drops against the pad and the closed lid; fasteners should not be forced against the box base.
- Necklace: place the chain, clasp and pendant in their planned positions. Check chain routing, pendant clearance and removal without pulling the clasp.
- Bracelet or watch: check the pillow or C-clip with the actual closed strap or bangle, including the clasp and case height.
- Mixed set: check separation between pieces and finger access at every cavity, then close the lid with all pieces fitted.
Record the sample ID, insert material and revision, piece dimensions, photos, required changes and approval decision. If tarnish protection matters, request evidence for the proposed lining and metal combination; fabric colour alone does not establish anti-tarnish performance.
